EPAR OPAR

Single channel video projection on muslin. Born and brought up in a middle class ghoti context of early 90's Calcutta, Shinjita Roy's all time favourite food is alu posto (potato cooked with poppy seeds paste). Only recently, at age 35, on one fine Hinge date, she found out that posto is not an everyday dish for people of Bangladesh. Although she has never been to Bangladesh, she painted an image of a Bangladeshi person in her mind, an illustration of the collage of stories she heard as a child. Your Bangla is Funny! is an improvised-dance expression of travelling from a biased Epar idea of the Opar, to a Melbourne-based mish-mash of the two under the broader category of Bengali migrants.
